One of our favorite projects at the Transhuman House is PlantSat1 – Growing a plant in space simulating Mars conditions. “PlantSat is a contribution to the ongoing human efforts of exploring, understanding and eventually colonizing Mars. Its goal is to study in low earth orbit the growth of a suitable plant, replicating the conditions that life will experience on Mars’ surface. These conditions include low gravity force and high solar radiation. Continue reading “PLANTSAT1 – Simulated Martian Environment”
(Provo, UT) One of the Foundation members is launching a satellite or rather designing a satellite for launch in 2019. It’s a 3U Cube sat and the Foundationer is a PhD student in Botany. They set up a biome experiment at the transhuman house that contains a closed system that the satellite will carry and we set up a 1.5-hour cycle as it would experience on orbit with a remote camera so we can monitor it remotely. Sage (the PhD student Botanist) will be staying at the Transhuman House through the summer, working on various experiments related to Botany and Hydroponics.
